Wildlife Reserve in Borana National Park – Yabelo ( Headquarters )
The was originally created to protect Ethiopia’s endemic Swayne’s hartebeest. Hartebeests have since been poached out of the preserve. The Park is birdwatchers pretty much important for Birdwatchers.

Location of the park; Borena Zone (Oromia), Ethiopia.

Distance from Addis: 2496 sq km

Year Established: 1986

Area: About 2,500 km2

Key Species

Wildlife: Burchell’s and Grevy’s zebras (likely to be seen). Ostrich, Gazelle.

Birds: endemic Ethiopian bushcrow, Abyssinian hornbill, white-tailed swallow, White Tailled sawllow, Bustards, Somali Courser, Donadsonssmith’s Nighjar, Black Flycatcher, White-cheeked Turaco, Tawny Wagtail, Bare-faced Go-Away-Bird  and  over 210 other birds are likely to be seen.

Why visit this Park? Originally set up to protect and conserve the Swayne’s hartebeest, this park is made up of savannah with woody and herbaceous plants. This park is most important for birdwatchers.

Borena National Park can be visited either from Addis Ababa to Yabello then to the Park or combined with the Omo Valley Tribes of South Ethiopia.

Day 2 -3: Borena National Park – Yabello

Day 4: Yabello – Jinka Via Konso

Day 5: Mursi Tribes in Mago National Park.  Overnight – Turmi

Day6: Hamar, Karo, Nyangatom and Dassenech Tribes – Turmi

Day7:  Turmi – Arba Minch for Nechisar National Park

Day8: Nechisar National Park with Lake Chamo

Day9 – 12: Arba Minch – Bale Mountains National Park

Day 13: Bale Mountains – Langano for Abijata – Shalla Lakes National Park – Langano

Day 14- 16: Awash National Park, Ali Dege Wild Life Reserve, Yangu di Rassa National Park

Day 15: Back to Addis Ababa (End of the Trip)
